I see from your profile page that you have no children and thus cannot or will not understand how a father (presumably driving), mother (w/1 child on her lap), and 3-6 other kids Plus Grandma in the small back seat together sitting on laps and w/the family's dog or cat, PLUS survival supplies enough for all that crowd...clothing, food, medicines, water, first aid, etc....is evidence enough that that family w/laps needs more than a compact car.

You try that scenario just once and get back to me.

You try that scenario just once and get back to me.

...Or the EIGHTEEN people who fled NO before Katrina, in a Hyundai 4 dr. They were in and on. Many were very heavy adults, sitting on very heavy adults. They were in the trunk, and on the roof, and hood. They got stopped by cops three times, but kept going to Houston...

ILM bump!

There was a woman on the phone to local Houston television a few moments ago. They left League City (southeast side of Houston near Galveston Bay) at 4 pm yesterday.

They just now got onto 290 from the Beltway now.

In other words, they've made approximately 35 miles in 20 hours, they're still in Houston, and 290 is the same sort of parking lot.

It's the same story everywhere, except that people are running out of gas and blocking the road.

And there's no gas to be found. The Governor has asked the Air Force if they can fly some in, but I don't know how you distribute it.

And more good news from Houston. The delay at Hobby airport is many hours long because workers called in "sick" or just didn't show up at all. And there's no room in ANY parking lot. You either take a taxi to the airport or you abandon your car in a bad neighborhood and walk to the airport.

I did that once with my cousins, neices, nephews, aunts and uncles. It isn't fun but sometimes you make do with what you have. BTW, I don't resent or blame people who have big cards/vans/SUV's.
