My sister thinks they ought to put some Mom's in charge of evacuations...bossy, strict Moms.

During an evacuation the Mom's would make the folks share, LOL.

No car could leave the city unless it was completely full of people. If your car wasn't full, you'd have to pull over and fill it with evacuees from buses or two cars with a couple people each in them would have to both leave in the same car.

Of course, none of this could be done (because we live in the land of the free) and certainly people don't want to leave their personal car behind, but don't you think there are families on that freeway with more than one car; mom is driving one, dad is driving the other, and certainly there are plenty of cars with only two people per car. If there was a way to make people car pool, it definitely would aid in large evacuations.

I was in school one morning, after a weekend of 707's landing all night, over us. It was monday, about 11am, when the school PA announced we were going home. Go to your bus, now.

Arriving at home, my mom had packed a suitcase for each of us. We loaded onto cattle cars around 2pm, and we left Gitmo, aboard the USNS Upshur, before dark. That was October 22, 1962. The families living on the Leeward side were air evac'ed, while most of the others left on the seaborn transport, or an old LST.

We arrived in Norfolk on a cold rainy day, in shorts, and t-shirts. We lived.

People who don't have any better sense than to trust in gum't, deserves what they get... Military wives ain't gum't. They know better than to ask. They do!
