"This is where Blank-O asks for 24 hours to rethink her own evacuation order. < /s>"

And where Nagin moves all the buses to the lowest point in the city.

President: Gov. Blanco, what do you need?
Blanco: Um, er, give me everything you've got.
President: What the heck does that mean?
Blanco: Um, er....wait, my connection is bad, I'll call you back later.

The pressure is back up and that is indicative of the weakening in winds caused by the EWRCC. This storm is still a day or more from landfall. She's going to complete her EWRC. The water she's been churning has to go somewhere. She's about to push into shallower water. The water she is pushing will interact with that shelf and not in a good way.

And really, when it's the difference between a Cat 5 25 ft storm surge or a Cat 4 15-20 ft storm surge.. who's counting?

You try that scenario just once and get back to me.

...Or the EIGHTEEN people who fled NO before Katrina, in a Hyundai 4 dr. They were in and on. Many were very heavy adults, sitting on very heavy adults. They were in the trunk, and on the roof, and hood. They got stopped by cops three times, but kept going to Houston...

ILM bump!

millibar = 1/1000 bar.

1 bar = 14.5 psi.

915 millibar = 13.2 psi

There is no such thing as doing something right in media world.

Yup. Instead of talking about allthe things that are going well, and telling people what THEY CAN DO to be prepared, they just nit pick stuff to death. If it's not perfect, they raise hell.

...Rita weakens a little further...remains an extremely dangerous
hurricane...

a Hurricane Warning is in effect from Port O'Connor Texas to Morgan

Preparations to protect life and property should be rushed to
completion.

A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect from south of Port
O'Connor to Port Mansfield Texas and for the southeastern coast of
Louisiana east of Morgan City to the mouth of the Mississippi

Mississippi River to the mouth of the Pearl River including
metropolitan New Orleans and Lake Pontchartrain...from south of
Port Mansfield to Brownsville Texas...and for the northeastern
coast of Mexico from Rio San Fernando northward to the Rio Grande.
A tropical storm watch means that tropical storm conditions are
possible within the watch area...generally within 36 hours.

For storm information specific to your area...including possible
inland watches and warnings...please monitor products issued
by your local weather office.

At 1 PM CDT...1800z...the center of Hurricane Rita was located near

You MUST be the most anally retentive person ever to post on FR.

To keep up your silly contention for, what is it, about 200 posts (you'll probably have to go back and look) has to be one of the greatest abuses of bandwidth I've ever seen in my 7+ years of posting.

How many hundreds more are you going to keep it up?

I was born in Burlington, spent a lot of time in Nags Head, was in Rodanthe, Morehead City and New Bern in June of this year. Yes NC has a lot of hurricanes. I passed through Wilmington a few days after Fran hit in 1996. I am telling you that you cannot compare a TS Ophelia (which you mentioned first) with a Cat 4/5 Rita.
If Rita were to follow the track still predicted this morning it would have been the equivalent of going inland from Wilmington to Cape Hatteras and staying a Cat 1 to Raleigh. In this case at least, Perry has had a much more serious situation to deal with than Easley faced with Ophelia.

A bar is the measure of atmospheric pressure at sealevel. A millibar is 1/1000 of a bar. Meteorologists measure pressure in millibars and it gets converted to inches for the general public. Standard atmospheric pressure is 1,013 millibars so, 900 millibars is REALLY, REALLY low. Wind is the movement of air from high to low pressure. The bigger the difference between the high and low pressure systems next to each other, the higher the winds.

President: Gov. Blanco, what do you need?
Blanco: Um, er, give me everything you've got.

That was the really pathetic part. When her "Four Page Request" was questioned, her spokeswoman came out to defend her, "The President should know what we needed." He's supposed to be a mind reader now? Even if he were, it wouldn't help since the slate was blank.

Can't resist. Given my age, I have been exposed to weather for over 55 years. There's not a d*mn thing I can do about it, either.
