Point taken. But Reagan is still the gold standard for a Republican President in the same way Jesus is a model for Christians.

I don't think it's quite the same thing. Reagan wasn't crucified for the sins fo the Republican PArty and raised again on the third day.

He is the gold standard in what he said.

Reagan nominated Sandra Day O'Connor and Anthony Kennedy to the Supreme Court, neither of which have been reliable conservative votes.

Reagan did absolutely nothing in the pro-life area. Oh, he talked a good game, but he never proposed, or did, anything. Bush signed the PBA ban, and instituted a sensible embryonic stem cell policy.

Reagan cut taxes, but then raised taxes in 1982, when Democrats proposed a sham "we'll cut two dollars in spending for every dollar in tax cuts." He got snookered. Bush has never raised taxes, and has never even come close to raising taxes.

Reagan cut and run when 241 Marines were killed in Lebanon. Bush attacked Afghanistan and defeated the Taliban when America was attacked on 9/11.

Make no mistake. Ronald Reagan was a great president. He gave us hope after the miserable Carter years, and laid the groundwork for the dissolution of the Soviet Union.

But he didn't come close to actually doing as much as George W. Bush has.

As much as I adore Ronald Reagan, he is in no way comparable to Jesus... gold standard or not...
