Upon the death of the father, who is the Sr., his son, the Jr., drops the Jr., from his name.

A boy given the exact name as his paternal grandfather, has the Roman numeral "II" attached to his name. When the grandfather dies, the numeral remains.

When a son is given the exact name of his father and paternal grandfather, the Roman numeral "III" is attached to his name and so on and so on.
