Breaking: Jet Blue emergency landing, Long Beach, CA (UPDATE: Plane Landed Safely)
KABC Channel 7, live broadcast
Posted on 09/21/2005 4:21:43 PM PDT by kingu
A Jet Blue aircraft just did a low altitude flyby of Long Beach airport after reporting some concern with their forward gear. The television helicopter caught an image of it - the gear is turned sideways and tilted.
Aircraft is heading out towards the ocean to drop fuel, will turn around, and attempt a 'soft field' landing, keeping the nose up as long as possible.

Maybe that too--but on the Rita thread (I think #3) he gave up sniffing glue, too. Some people just can't handle stress! :>)!

I was on an emergency landing with gear problems once, on a very old 747-200. We took off out of Honolulu, and the main gear punctured the fuselage, they couldn't get the main gear doors closed, so they couldn't continue on to Phoenix because they couldn't reach flight level.
We landed OK, they worked on it all night, we got back on, they still didn't fix it. Spent the whole night in the airport, got on a Phillipines flight to San Fran the next afternoon. Plane was out for 4 days, our only 747. Lots of unhappy pax.

It's probably a twenty-cent grease fitting or an eight-cent washer left out at last servicing...I would imagine little parts like that can still be as dangerous. Like those innocent tile thingies on the Space Shuttle, remember? :o)

---There remains a lot of confusion as to whether the aircraft was dumping fuel.---
that wasn't fuel that someone saw . . . let's just say there are a lot of scared people up there right now.

It'd have to be doing like 120 for necessary lift.

I'd like to think everyone on the plane has been too. Maximum strength nicotine patches. The travelling smoker's best friend.

I'm on the phone with my boyfriend who is an aeronautical engineer and he says this isn't good at all. Play for these people and their poor families who might be watching this right now. I can't imagine anything worse.
To: Ernest_at_the_Beach
Talking about the sun. In another hour, it will be down on the runway and in his eyes. Not good.

I truly don't think they're watching their inflight TV...
..they are getting ready to crash land.....
... and one would assume many, if not all....
... are praying hard and making peace with their Maker...
....and perhaps calling loved ones.
