Breaking: Jet Blue emergency landing, Long Beach, CA (UPDATE: Plane Landed Safely)
KABC Channel 7, live broadcast
Posted on 09/21/2005 4:21:43 PM PDT by kingu
A Jet Blue aircraft just did a low altitude flyby of Long Beach airport after reporting some concern with their forward gear. The television helicopter caught an image of it - the gear is turned sideways and tilted.
Aircraft is heading out towards the ocean to drop fuel, will turn around, and attempt a 'soft field' landing, keeping the nose up as long as possible.

'soft field' indeed.
Here's to a successful landing or getting the gear righted.
I suspect the plane will be grounded until they replace the seats soon to be soiled..

I also heard that it's an airbus, or how ever you spell it...

Heard about it on KFI. There's a landing gear problem. It's "bent" according to the reporter. She'll break in if the landing goes badly.

Soft field landings mean that the pilot touches the main two gear down and holds the nose off of the ground as long as possible. This ensures the lowest possible touchdown speed of the nose wheel.
Wish them the best of luck!

Holy smoles. My husband and I are leaving Friday on a Jetblue flight, and my hubby HATES to fly. If he hears this on the news, I may not get him on the plane.

She'll break in if the landing goes badly.Yeah, wouldn't want people to know if it goes well.
