STARS UNLEASHED AT KATRINA FUNDRAISER... (Drudge)

New Orleans descended on New York for two concurrent concerts, dubbed From the Big Apple to the Big Easy, Tuesday night to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Big names such as Dave Matthews, Simon and Garfunkel, and Elton John filled the bills of the shows held at Radio City Music Hall and Madison Square Garden, but New Orleans acts from the Meters to the Neville Brothers were the focus of the evening's entertainment.

Piano player and studio whiz Allen Toussaint led the house band for the first segment of the MSG concert, alongside Late Show With David Letterman bandleader Paul Shaffer. Together they hosted a rotating panel of guests that included Lenny Kravitz, Elvis Costello, Paul Simon, Jimmy Buffett and New Orleans soul queen Irma Thomas, who performed her classic "Time Is on My Side," famously covered by the Rolling Stones in 1964. Aaron Neville joined Toussaint for a chilling take on Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come," sung against a backdrop of horrific images from flood ravaged New Orleans.

Political chatter was kept to a minimum at both events, with performers mostly sticking to the program: championing aid for New Orleans. But a few artists angrily denounced government officials for their slow response to Katrina's devastation. "I Wish New Orleans was dry and Washington was underwater," said Tom Waits. Bette Midler had even stronger words: "I got a letter from the Republican Party the other day. I wrote back, 'Go "f" yourself.'" She then added, "George Bush is a fan of mine -- he came to see me in the Seventies. His coke dealer brought him."

There was nothing but love for one former Oval Office resident, however: Bill Clinton's surprise appearances at both concerts were greeted with long standing ovations.

Classy comment at this event by Bette Midler:

"I got a letter from the Republican Party the other day. (loud prolonged jeers from audience) I wrote back, 'Go f**k yourself.'" She then added, "George Bush is a fan of mine -- he came to see me in the Seventies. His coke dealer brought him."

Please FReepmail me if you want on or off my ‘miscellaneous’ ping list.

You mean to tell me there are Hollywood people that don't particularly care for GWB??? Shocked, I am!

Good thing leftist a-holes don't count for anything.

Just trying to remember, did Middler graduate from the 6th or the 9th grade? Maybe she just needs an education to form an educated opinion.

Tess Smith? Got me. I don't know who she is either. Maybe not many do. Maybe that's why she wore what she wore to bring attention to hersflf. Yuk.

Did you hear the actual sound clip of this? Rush and Hannity both played it a few times today. Sounds 1,000x worse than it looks in print...

Is it small wonder why Americans are increasingly hating the entertainment industry crowd?

Midler's profanity-lace remark will came back to bite the Democrats BIG TIME if the Democrats don't start distancing themselves fast from them.

I didn't hear it on the radio or elsewhere. And I'm just as glad because those people are absolute poison and it was bad enough reading it :-)

The pool attendants at the ritzy Halekulani in Waikiki (from the good old days when I had a few extra bucks!)had some stories about old Bette...

She wigged out when the Northridge earthquake hit Southern California and took her and her kids over there for a few weeks. She was reportedly in a constant state of panic, bitchiness, whininess...you name it; she had the entire staff there totally sick of her.

It's time for the so-called "entertainers" to reflect on the history of their profession. Many years ago the royalty and nobility kept stables of jesters, acrobats, and other people of that sort to entertain them. "Stable" is the proper word. The king wouldn't have dinner with his favorite horse, no matter how much he liked the horse, and neither would he have dinner with entertainers. They entertained the king and then were expected to shut up. If they didn't shut up the king had ways to make them shut up.

The common people were entertained by traveling troupes of actors, jesters, and acrobats. A tent for the performance was set up on the outskirts of town, since members of the entertainment profession were not considered worthy to be allowed within the city walls.

Women of loose morals accompanied the theatrical troupe and did their own entertaining behind the tent. Indeed, for many years, until the start of the twentieth century, the professions of actor and prostitute intertwined. If a young lady went into the acting profession her family would usually disown her, considering that she was a prostitute.

So those "entertainers" who have an inflated opinion of themselves are not that far removed from the world's oldest profession. Even to this day they are no more than prostitutes. We pay them money, they entertain us, and we never see them again. We certainly would not expect them to give us political advice. They, like prostitutes, do no belong in polite society.

You have to love those DemocRATS. While whackjob John Conyers is holding a phony little hearing in a little basement, the video is being fed into the DNC headquarters to a room full of lunatic fringe. They are loving it as the "witnesses" are blaming Israel. While that is happening, anti-Semitic materials are being distributed at DNC HQ. What does Howard Dean do? He blames.............Karl Rove! These clowns really are in full meltdown.

MIDI - THE ROSE

There was stuff anti-Semitic...they passed around the room
Those Democrats are really rascals...oh no, they're sensing doom
What would they do? ... they're caught red-handed...a tale they quickly wove
Howard's excuse was really brilliant...it's done by Karl Rove

Rove's really been quite a magician...he makes them put foot in mouth
He makes them act like mental patients...their party is heading south
What would they do? ... they're caught red-handed...a tale they quickly wove
Howard's excuse was really brilliant...it's done by Karl Rove

Rove's everywhere...he's omnipresent...he makes Dems say such stupid things
Like making Dick call our troops Nazis...it's such grief that right wingers bring
What would they do now?...caught red-handed...so a tale they quickly wove
Howard's excuse was really brilliant...it's all done by Karl Rove
