We plan for my wife to take her ailing mother to Austin (she lives with us) and the dog and me will ride it out here in Victoria, Texas. The oldtimers who were here for Carla in 1961 are staying for the most part. But no final decision until Thursday AM.

Joe Bastardi at Accuweather.com is calling this the strongest storm to hit Texas, ever, or at least in recoreded history. Carla was a pussycat compared to Rita. One look at the satelite photo will tell you that she's a mean old gal, and not to be triffled with.

My brother and sister-in-law used to live right by you. I would go visit them when I was in college at Texas A&M. They moved away 5 years ago, and I'm glad they aren't there right now.

Unfortunately, I still have lots of friends in the Houston area.

Note, some bathtubs have slow leaks. A good cover of plastic wrap over the drain could help.

I put the top of a plastic butter cup or coffee lid over the drain, open the drain for a second to create suction and then put something the same shape and heavy on top of that. Stops most leaks.

I can't imagine a high pressure system strong enough to push this baby around.

Actually it's the high over northeast Texas, now moving east, that has kept the storm from turning north, and dealing another blow to Huey Longville. So Texas takes a hit instead. We just don't know where, because the movement of that high pressure area is difficult to predict. It's likely it will split and Rita will charge up the seam.

Very good thinking.

I have the .50BMG ready so if you need support just call fire control with the grid and we will fire for effect and you can walk us in!

Be careful HC and don't hesitate to call. That idiot humblegunner has my chainsaw so I can't help there.

I'm watching a Jet Blue Airbus 320 with a damaged landing gear dump fuel in preparation for an emergency landing at Burbank, Ca., airport. It's on FOXNEWS and MSNBC.

They're saying that the pilot will try a "soft field" landing.

I have friends in Pasadena...how bad do you think it will be there?

I hope your friends aren't there to find out. It's in the currently voluntary evacuation zone, but will turn mandatory at either 2 AM or 6 AM Thursday morning, depending on which part they live in. Northern part is the 6 AM zone.

If you're gonna die, die with your boots on

Unless you need to swim for your life, then the boots might not be a good idea. Tennis or running shoes, would be a better choice.

Let us know what you do.

I use the boots to drive the Hunting Truck.

It doesn't recognize water other than as a traction setting.

I sat in a gas line today and filled up, went to the Kroger and it was mayhem. I've never seen anything like this in my 42 years of living here. Moved here when I was 6....it's just bizarre and I rode out Alicia with no problems...We'll head west to Abilene (my aunt lives there) tomorrow ...I guess.

I'm so fearful of what I'll come back to.

No need to fear what you will come back to. You should fear trees and stuff like that falling on the house with you in it.

I'm home. Whew, traffic is about as gridlock as it can get.

Texas - Houston - Southwest - Westbury

The call phone system is about overloaded, gas stations are running out of gas, stores as far north as Huntsville are being depleted.
