. Shouting this statement on radio where millions of people can hear it PRACTICALLY GUARANTEES that Gotti won't even think of touching Sliwa ( unless of course he is suicidal like Muhammad Atta). If Sliwa dies suddenly, guess who the first suspect will be ?

If Sliwa gets offed, who is going to mess with Gotti? Gotti won't do it himself so he has nothing to worry about.

Gotti now has a personal stake in ensuring that Sliwa DOES NOT get offed. The FBI and NYPD detectives are watching him and have been since Giullani became chief prosecutor.

Even if somebody else does it, Gotti will be suspect number one ( i.e. people will always believe he HIRED the killer). Self-preservation ensures that he'll leave Sliwa alone and go after less prominent people he does not like. All he can do now is tolerate Sliwa's big mouth.
