Information is limited given no recon back then but the Galveston storm topped out at 125 kts, based on best estimates, which is 10 kts below Cat 5.

Isn't that what the 19something Galveston storm did, or close to it? The 1900 Galveston hurricane hit as a Cat 4, but I don't know if it ever got up to 5.
