My brother, who is volunteering in New Orleans, called me earlier today to tell me that "rumor has it" that some big lawsuits were going to be filed against the Army Corps of Engineers, and I should get in on it.

I didn't think too much of it until I read this article, but if the floodwalls really were improperly constructed, there's money in it for sure.

With so much death and destruction, you know everybody is searching for a deep pocket, and it doesn't get any deeper than Uncle Sugar.

These lawsuits won't be settled in our lifetimes; it will take a RICO Squad with Rudy at the helm to delve through the muck of corruption and lies in that state.

Except it is worse than tying to sue City Hall.

True. But if IIRC from high school civics class, the government has to "agree" to be sued.

Spoken like a true scumbag. Got news for you, genius: "Uncle Sugar" only has "a deep pocket" to the extent that he's picking mine for tax dollars.

I swear, it becomes more and more apparent the older I get that Shakespeare was on to something...

The floodwalls that collapsed were not the responsibility of the Army Corps of Engineers. They were the responsibility of the New Orleans Levee Board. The New Orleans Levee Board's primary concern, as I recall it from my living in the city, was to keep the "undesirable elements" (blacks and teenagers)from the very upscale lakefront neighborhoods. To accomplish their task they have their own police force, they closed parks, they blocked roads and established checkpoints to harrass nonresidents.

Now that the Levee Board's floodwalls failed it will be interesting to see how the rich folks react to the loss or destruction of their property. Will they circle the wagons around the Levee Board, or will they cry for blood?

I'm curious how the various floodgates held up. There has been no mention of them in the MSM.

I wonder if the lawyers have ever heard of sovereign immunity.

I applaud your candid statements.

Lawyers (your everybody) are always looking for deep pockets, not justice.

My opinion of lawyers cannot get any lower, so it's refreshing to see a lawyer admit in a public forum that he or she is just a greedy parasite

With all the graft and corruption for which that area is famous, I'd check the building materials before the engineering. Inferior concrete in the levee?
