The NSA is part of the DoD, according to Wikipedia. They were also involved with Echelon.

I'm not so sure the Wikipedia is correct.

The CIA is not part of DOD and I don't think NSA is either. The Army is part of DOD. I think Able Danger was an Army program. That doesn't mean that it didn't have NSA involvement but given the fact that NSA is precluded from listening in on U.S. communications this doesn't sound like something that they would want to get involved in. That's just a guess but until we hear otherwise I wouldn't be spreading the word that there is an NSA - Able Danger connection.

Did more research and yes, the NSA is under the DoD...has been since it's inception in 1952...

Under the Secretary of Defense, and in accordance with approved policies of USCIB, the Director of NSA shall be responsible for accomplishing the mission of NSA.

Original Charter of the National Security Agency

Exactly. I'd be careful about wikipedia, anyone can post and alter information that's there. I imagine topics like this would get worked over by any number of individuals for all sorts of reasons.

See this link:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:General_disclaimer

"Wikipedia is an online open-content collaborative encyclopedia, that is, a voluntary association of individuals and groups who are developing a common resource of human knowledge. The structure of the project allows anyone with an Internet connection and World Wide Web browser to alter its content."
