If 500 jobs is 4% of the NYT workforce, that means that the NYT employs around 12,500 people. It is amazing that it takes that many people to daily produce such a load of crap.
I was thinking the same thing, spiff. Likewise, when the article said the Philly Inquirer is cutting its editorial staff from 500 people -- 500 on the editorial staff? Talk about bloated -- sounds like the DMV or some other mega-bureaucracy. I don't see how these rags generate nearly enough income to maintain such ponderous staffs, even with all the cutbacks. Well, we are making progress, anyway. In some ways it's better to watch them die a slow death.
