Before we all gloat to much, this is far from pleasant for the people who are losing their jobs because management insists on retaining the likes of Maureen Dowd and Paul Krugman.
Sorry, I just can't work up too much sympathy for anyone associated with those bastions of liberal toilet paper. Sure, management and some of the left-wing columnists are the worst of the NY Slimes, but no one is forced to work there, and I'm quite sure most of them departing now will still have better prospects ahead of them than a lot of better people who have never been associated with the NY SLimes. I spent enough of my life around NY and Boston and Philly to know that anyone being "let go" by the NY Times companies still has better career prospects than a lot of other (better) people who never entered that cesspool in the first place.
