To the best of my knowledge Filene's Basement is a separate entity from Filenes/Macy's/Federated Dept. stores. They were allowed to keep the name I guess.
I didn't know there was a Filene's Basement in the Mall of America... never been there. I hope to visit Minnesota one of these years... ;-)
