Why is it that you never hear the cities of Metairie and Kenner mentioned in the same sentence as New Orleans? I moved from Metairie a year ago to Dallas. Metairie is the suburb where the working people of New Orleans fled to so we wouldn't be preyed upon by the gun toting thugs who walked the streets at night. Metairie and Kenner were flooded too. In fact MORE WHITES LOST HOMES THAN BLACKS IN THE FLOOD! Why is it that you are worthy of news coverage only if you are black and poor? WHITES LOST EVERYTHING TOO! But people who had a savings account, insurance, extended family and an education to fall back on just don't play well on TV for the liberals.
You want to talk about blacks? How about all the honest working blacks that fled to Metairie and Kenner to get away the from the welfare queens, drug addicts, and thugs? Dont see their face on TV. Because they are still working, cleaning up their homes that they bought WITHOUT government aid.
The inner city of New Orleans was a war zone BEFORE the flood. It just wasn't on the news. Check out the crime rate! These people should have been rounded up and shot long ago. Not because they are black...but because they were criminals with no self control or accountability. They just happen to be predominantly a black demographic, but so were many parts of the surrounding suburbs, where blacks didn't loot or cause chaos. This has little to do with race and more to do with a social class of people who lived off the teet of the government. When the teet closed up they squealed like the pigs they are and the media could not get a camera in front of them quick enough.

you've answered your own question thru the rest of your comment. pain and suffering sells news stories. stories of people who pick themselves up, dust themselves off, and start all over - in the opinion of msm - is relegated to feel good emails.
if you want to sell news stories, you have to get peoples attention. storeis of people recovering just fine on their own won't grasp at people's attention like riots and looting. for example, if the msm reported that katrina wiped out new orleans, and the population just shrugged it off and started rebuilding, that would be 1 or 2 stories. but if you focus on the negative, you get a dozen stories, then rebuttals, then more stories and rebuttals. all these stories sell. we have become a society of "tragedy vampires" our society in general seems to thrive on the pain and suffering of others. and msm makes their money off of this addiction to all things grotesque.

sorry for the rant.. had this conversation with a bleeding heart liberal last night, who couldn't grasp anything the idea that everyone in new orleans was now destitute, i couldn't get him to understand that there were plenty of people that are going on with their lives and rebuilding, but the msm just wants to show all the "underpriveledged" to sell more news stories.
