The Medicare bill was bound to happen regardless who would be in office in 2004. Same with the education bill. There are things that no President can stop when its political time will come.

That's what you get when you don't elect conservatives to office.

You should know better then to peddle that junk around here. This has nothing to do with spending on national defense and security matters. Conservatives want to see increases in the military budget. At the same time, conservatives want to see other spending decrease. The current GOP Congress and this President have expanded welfare and entitlement in the federal bureaucracy like never before. The fact that PresBush refuses to veto anything doesn't help matters.

We should have no problem helping our fellow Americans. Disaster can strike anywhere in our country & we could all face some sort of nature driven or terrorist manufactured calamity. My problem is with the thieving politicians (both sides of the aisle) that congregate on $ like flies on excrement & SPEND our $ like drunken swabs at a strip club.No matter what steps are taken to insure fiscal accountability, the corrupt bastards always find a way around it.

Those "purist" and "absolutist" conservatives can never ever be in power. Same goes with the left wing liberals, they can never win. The mistake that you "people" (despise intended) make is that you believe you are a majority and that you have the power to elect whoever you want. Last year many of the "purist" and "absolutist" conservatives on FR were telling us that President Bush was going to be crushed in the elections because the "purist" conservatives, were against him accusing him of being a liberal. Well as usual they were wrong in their predictions and their analysis and President Bush won re-election with the largest number of votes ever cast for a President in history of the US. Even more the Republicans increase their majority in congress.

You "people"(despise intended) need to realize that you are a minority who in most cases do not vote for Republicans. So why the heck the GOP should worry about you.

The medicare pill bill really does need to go. This is a good time for it, before people get accustomed to having it.

Let the Medicare pill bill go and have 90% of people over 65 years old vote for the democrat party and we will lose the Congress in 2006 and the White House in 2008 to the real socialists and communists i.e. the liberal democrats. Do you guys think about winning elections when you make these foolish "grand standing" statements.

The federal government should under no circumstances dirrectly underwrite the costs of rebuilding private assets.

Without any doubt / precisely. But you know what, watch what happens. The welfare class in N.O. will be restored to its welfare sucking, dope dealing, poverty and crime agenda and the mail boxes will again fill with your hard earned tax dollars for people that don't want to work, or pay for anything they have.

Uncle Sam, the giant sow, with a trillion teets.

BINGO!....We have a winner>>
You just said why it won't be done. Congress lacks the will to stop spending, (and who elects congress?) and President Bush lacks the will to use the veto to change that. (because in order to sustain a veto he needs those same congress critters we elect!)

Best I can tell the over 65's are not wild about it and would scarcely notice if it were indefinitely delayed or reappraised.

You are wrong. Make the delay official and reap utter defeat at the polls. No thanks, we have smarter people running the party than making such a foolish act.

Despise who you want. Just don't try and pretend that you or this President or this Congress are conservatives since you obviously have no understanding of what that word means.

Then form you own "Absolute Conservative Party". I know a moron called Pat Buchanan who tried to do this and he got 1% of total vote in 2000. Please feel free to repeat the same idiotic experiment.

At least I'll won't compromise my principles. You can continue to roll over for whatever the spin of the day is. Since you're not interested in limited government or fiscal responsiblity I'd suggest that you call yourselves 'Democrats' but that's already taken.

He is not a fiscal liberal.

He cut taxes.

Despite the crippling effects of 9/11...despite inheriting a Clinton recession...despite a liberal MSM, despite Afghanistan...despite Iraq...HE CUT TAXES! He turned this economy around with a tax cut. He made us proud by hunting down our enemies and killing them. Not here. Over THERE!

There hasn't been a terrorist attack on any of our assets since 9/11.

OTOH, The Katrina disaster is a blessing in disguise for the GOP. Why else does the former campaign manager of Al Gore, Ms. Brazille speak the words, "....work with you Mr. President..." without sarcasm?,p>She knows his type of FDR emergency program has the 20/20 hindsight of the left's failure to raise the poor.

I love this President. And as the bumper sticker says, "...he's saving your a$$ like it or not!

He's going up there right alongside President Ronald Reagan. Bet on it.
