As the petty carping from Senators Reid and Kerry indicates, President Bushs speech from Jackson Square was a success. Again, he accepted responsibility for the torpid response of federal authorities. He showed empathy for the victims and recognition the poor had borne the brunt of the New Orleans disaster.
He came prepared with a credible agenda of action. And the biblical allusions fit well with Southern and religious folks, black and white. Not a great speech, but Gersen did the job, put the President out front and center as Big Boss in the rebuilding of New Orleans.
Also, New Orleans and Louisiana officials, Democrats though they may be, are unlikely to keep attacking a fellow who is going to decide how $65 billion is spend in their back yard. After mishandling the crisis, the president has been on top and out front for two weeks. While the memory of his stumbling and bumbling will be part of his legacy, the worst is behind him, the story now gets better with the recovery and rebuilding of New Orleans, a story Americans will like.
Media and Democrats who continue to snipe will soon appear to be what many are: inveterate Bush-baiters and Bush-bashers. Nevertheless, there is no denying that George W. Bush is now at the nadir of his presidency. The aura of 9/11 is gone. His approval is at 40%. Iraq appears an insoluble mess with the real potential for a strategic and economic disaster. Gas prices are biting. The immigration situationand the presidents inexplicable refusal to protect the borderis killing him with his populist base.

LOL...you read my mind! That was the exact image I had in mind when I typed my post!
The dirty little secret about the number is that if your poll number is below 45, you are considered a loser - which is what the dems have to believe in order to continue their assault against Bush. The MSM is just trying to help out the blame-Bush'ers.
If people remember correctly, Bush's poll numbers were also below 45 for several months before the 2004 election. The dems were deluding themselves .. as usual. When Bush won by over 4 MILLION VOTES .. the poll numbers were shown to be what they were - A LIE. Just like they are now.
One thing I have notice is that the Bush Administration leads by what he think is right not by polls..
"... the Bush Administration leads by what he think is right not by polls.."
You would have noticed correctly!
Something's up.
Google "goz zog". First hit is a Hillary Clinton site. Hmm..
Pattt Buckwheat has nadired GW more than the left wing mediots have and has been wrong more times.

Good analysis by Pat. Bush has been a major disappointment. As a conservative, I don't find a lot to cheer about in Bush's promise of multi-billions of federal hurricane spending (how do YOU spell "government waste and inefficiency"), anymore than I did in his signing the highway bill and his promises to world bodies that he is going to "pledge" billions of American taxmoney for foreign welfare payments to one hellhole after the next. (And don't get me started on the budget-busting, FDR-style Medi-Pill bill.)
Buchanan's 2000 bid for the presidency was ridiculous. But he is without question a conservative. Bush OTOH is a big government type, pure and simple.
So? It's not like he or any other senior member of his administration has Presidential ambitions (no offense Condi fans). In fact, the last time neither party nominated either the sitting President or a senior member of the sitting administration was Eisenhower vs Stevenson in 1952. Before that was 1920 (Harding vs Davis).
elections in both 2006 and 2008 will hinge, in part, on how americans feel about the administration - even though Bush is not running. Rove may not care, but we do. you can already see the Dem political operation for 2006/2008 revving up on threads here - even though Bush is not running, they are going to be running on the Bush record. so its imperative that things like iraq and gas prices improve, and this katrina thing does not become a fiscal atomic bomb and a costly beauracratic rebuilding effort.
the Dems will try and present to americans that "things are out of control". iraq, gas prices, Katrina, budget, etc. and to the degree that swing voter americans buy into that, they will be more likely to vote for change, and that will hurt republicans.
Buchanan is at No Tide.
It is this simple for Pat Buchanan: "unless you agree with me 100%, you don't agree with me at all." Pat hates two things about Bush: 1) the Iraq War; and 2)the borders.
While I agree with Pat about the borders, that still does not mean that I want articles of impeachment drawn up against Bush.
Bush is not a populist, never has been, never will be.
Thank god.
Quote: "the Dems will try and present to americans that "things are out of control". iraq, gas prices, Katrina, budget, etc. and to the degree that swing voter americans buy into that, they will be more likely to vote for change, and that will hurt republicans."
The last election should have shown one thing. People don't vote for change unless the other side is offering it. The dems offer nothing other than criticism. This isn't like 1994 when the Repbulicans ran on SOMETHING, a plan.
I also see the dems taking their best shots. . NOW. Yet, the elections are over a year away. They have revealed their strategy (to the extent there is one) over a year away from a vote being cast. This is foolish.
Finally, as hapless as the Republicans seem, the democrats are worse. There is a war being waged in the dem party, and it isn't going to be pretty. Even today, Cindy Moonbat called Hillary out on Iraq.
That's nice.
Janet Reno accepted responsibility fo Waco.
Buchanan is an anti-semite............also hates WASPS. Typical of many Irish Catholics.
There are some stuff that I think Bush has done wrong or I think he could do better, but I think once he is set, he will do it....
