All we ask is that you remember the words that Benjamin Franklin gave his countrymen 200 years ago. On leaving the Constitutional Convention, Mr. Franklin was approached by a Mrs. Powel of Philadelphia, who asked him, "Well, Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?" With no hesitation whatsoever, Franklin responded, "A republic, if you can keep it."
