I am giving up CDs. Within the next several months, I expect most of my family's CDs will be converted for playing on our iPods and personal computers. The actual CDs will either be sold or given away. As more people connect their digital music players to their home stereos and car stereos, they realize they have no use for the racks of CDs taking up space in their homes. If you no longer play CDs, why keep them? That is the conclusion my wife and I reached, and that is why I am completing the arduous process of moving the music to more compact computer storage from the CDs.

Imagine all your own music being put into your own sort of radio station that is a little larger than a creditcard. You can play the songs you want in what ever order or shuffle them. You dont have to change the cds because there isnt any. You can carry thousands of songs with you and play them in the car or at home.
It's needlessly complicated, but it is quite doable.
Sorry, but me and my 8-Tracks, Beta max, and Tandy computer are alright by me.
VERY cool. I have two Ipods- the U2 limited edition and a green mini. I SO wish I had a Nano- I bought the mini to work out with and I just love it.
How do you get lyrics with Itunes 5.0?
An iPod is just a trendy music player using digital music files rather than traditional media (CD, cassettes, LP's).
It's got a fancy user interface which you can navigate by spinning your fingers around the stationary "wheel."
It's all the rage among the Prius-driving, Starbucks-drinking, Barnes-and-Noble-lounging, Poncho-wearing urban flakes. Not to disgrace the submitter, or anyone else here who has one, as the converse is not necessarilly true. It just seems like Apple and Google are the latest fads among the 'metrosexual' crowd. Now, I have to wash my hands for typing that word.
Selling your CD collection would be insane. Storing them in the attic/garage would be only a little less so. Some times I listen to something on my iPod that I haven't listened to before and I realize I need to re-rip the CD. Besides, you would need multiple redundant backups to be completely safe.
I'd rather have the CDs. I can take somewhere if need be, play them in my car (don't have it hooked up for iPod yet, but usually copy the CD first), or do several other things.
It's a device that plays music, or any kind of sound file- like audio books. Instead of having removable media like casettes or CDs, it uses digital files. No moving parts, and often a HUGE storage capacity. The sound quality is quite good, and the device itself is the size of a pack of cigarettes. You see people listening to them all the time on the DC Metro system while they're commuting. You can also listen to PODcasts on them, which are basically just a recorded broadcast saved in a filetype that iPods like-- MP3.
Just bought one for my daughter for the same reasons - loves it.
I'm sure you can fit every CD you own, at 192 or even 320 quality, on one of these:

Me neither. I like CDs, heck I like vinyl. Those two things are just cooler in ways I can't even quantify, but can only feel...
You are not the Lone Ranger
Such as: Anapod Explorer
YES....I am amazed at the people who cannot spend QUIET time with themselves......listening to their thoughts, their homes, their neighborhoods.....NOW, If I could get a music system that would blot out idiots driving like maniacs, the smog of the city, or the construction crews work next door....THEN, maybe, maybe, I'd be interested. I quit a good paying job so I could have QUIET time....but, then, I'd make a good hermit.
I don't have one either
I just stick with the radio for music
Too cumbersome for me though. I have read that there will soon be a program developed that will take your iTunes library and search the web for lyrics and then paste them into the songs for you.
