Absolutely, you should tell him the truth and you should do it in person, not by e-mail. Ask to meet him for lunch somewhere or some other neutral place. Speak the truth to him and tell him that you know that, as a Christian, he wouldn't want to spread that kind of lie and that you know that he would agree with you about stem cell research. It's hard to confront people, but I find it is the best way to clear the air. I've been faced with those kinds of situations and I have always taken the confrontation approach. Straightforward. I had a woman who didn't believe in women preachers but she wouldn't say it to me. She talked against me behind my back. When I found out about it, I went to her house for a "visit". We sat in her front yard and I told her, "Betty, do you know what I like about you?" She was taken back a bit, but asked, "What?" I said, "I like your honesty. You're not afraid to say what's on your mind. So, I'm going to ask you this, "You really didn't want a woman preacher did you?" She was honest, "No, I didn't." I told her that I appreciated her honesty and I said, "I respect your opinion and we are straight with each other. Now, is there any reason why we can't be friends?" She laughed and we talked for about an hour. She gave me a rabbit doll she had made and we became good friends.

Appeal to the best in a person and they will usually respond in kind. Of course it doesn't work so well with liberals, LOL.
