Difficult work. Truly the work of angels. I was caregiver for my father so I can appreciate the difficulty of communicating with dementia patients and the elation when a breakthrough occurs.

The Alzheimers patients are the very dearest ones...actually I should not limit it to just Alzheimers, as so many nursing home residents have varying degrees of dementia, without having Alzheimers...but they are the very ones that touch my heart the most...perhaps because it was so near to home for me...I watched my mother go from a woman who knew exactly who I was, to a woman who thought I was nothing but a private nurse, hired from out of town, to care for her...

Alzheimers robs those it attacks of their past, of their present and their future...they deserve the best of care, and it was my privilege to try to make their days on earth as happy and comfortable as I could...
