You kind of proved my point for me. I'm fairly active on this site, and read a lot of national news. For the life of me I couldn't tell you a thing about George Allen. I've heard the name bantered back and forth on here a couple of times, but I couldn't even tell you what state he's from. Harris and Coburn are two more nobody's.

If these guys have any intention on running at a national level in 2008, they gotta start getting their names out there. I know we all sit here and make disparaging comments about the MSM, but they're still the big boys in creating name recognition. If the MSM isn't talking about your guy, there's no chance that the average voter in Yuba City, CA has heard of him.

And given the choice between "Mr. No Name Conservative Candidate" and "Rudy Guilliani", people are gonna pick Rudy, because he has a high likability factor. (And Awesome name recognition.)
