The issue for many, including myself, is not that priests are molesting children, it's that the church hierarchy has known about it for a long time and sought to protect itself rather than throw those responsible out to be prosecuted.

Do you have children? Do they attend public school? I will be more than happy to listen to your argumen if and when you can justify to me the lack of public(and your own personal) outrage aginst this .....

Sex Abuse by Teachers Said Worse Than Catholic Church

In fact, a local female school teacher has just been incarcerated for solliciting sex from her young male students. Why didn't this make national headlines.

*Why is Cardinal Roger Mahony, who was just in the Vatican to elect the new pope, still obstructing the L.A. County DA's investigation into child molestation and the church's complicity?*

What does this have to do with your post? Why single out Cardinal Mahony? Is he "your" bishop?

Pope John Paul should have been begging for forgiveness in his last hours.

And so should you for allowing the abuse in your community. "Judge not, lest you be judged".

Once again you invoke the Clinton defense: "My transgressions aren't that bad because other people do it." That doesn't fly. When teachers, or anyone else for that matter, are caught molesting children, I have no problem locking them up forever. There is plenty of outrage at all molestations. Why do you try so hard to deflect criticism of the church when it is so rightly deserved?

Roger Mahony is a prime example of the Church's refusal to own up to its' mistakes. He continually transferred known molesting priests around to different parishes, where they continued to molest. And even now he is refusing to turn over documents about his actions to the L.A. D.A.'s office. Any time it wants to, the church can order Mahony to cooperate with the investigation, but it refuses. Why?
