I don't see Poland, which was just as indoctrinated to hate Americans and expect a welfare state, having the same kind of national dementia. If Poland can overcome it, what the hell is the problem with Germany?
The problem with Germany is that they haven't had to suffer quite as much. A large chunk of them have enjoyed 6 week vacations and all the other "incentives" of the welfare state. And they have done it on the back of not really having to pay for a military and living under the umbrella of the safety and security provided by the American military.
