Right on Hildy! Arnold Schwarzenegger also holds a college degree (so do I for that matter).

You appear to have the same view that I do.

Frankly, I probably don't share all of your values. My motivation for the comment was your willingness to do something beyond complain.

Many on FreeRepublic's California Topic have active plans to change California's political climate. I salute them all, whether their endeavors concentrate on the organized political spectrum or they're active on this forum providing facts as opposed contributing feelings/unsubstantiated opinion.

That we agree substantially or even slightly pales in comparison to my fundamental disagreements with those not on this forum who promote the liberal agenda. You and I may not be kindred spirits but I've long believed that registered Republicans make excellent clay with which to fashion conservatives.

Hildy....Sorry you have to be personal about a tongue in cheek remark. That seems to be all to prevalent nowadays on FR.

That was a tongue in cheek remark? My point is that it's just juvenile to say someone is stupid when you don't agree with them.

If you support liberal activist actors who harm your industries up in Northern California, that's your mistake.

Where did you get the idea that I did?

California needs a booming film industry in the state. With Arnold's move to offer tax grants to filmmakers, this will also secure his re-election to office.

Equine feces. It will secure favorable treatment of one industry with little historical interest in supporting ANY Republican. Given the political composition of the film business in California, if anybody could be accused of shilling for Democrats in this exchange, it would be you.

Hollywood is the one big business I wish they would drive out of So. Cal...

Amen. Good riddance to them.

I strongly oppose special breaks for the movie studios. Why do they deserve a different tax status than all of our other important industries? Why not across-the-board tax incentives for all California businesses?

If I read your posts correctly, first I am not as smart as Ahnuld, second, now I am juvenile. Why this penchant to demean others when Arnold is the subject??? If somehow demeaning others that are not the subject of discussion benefits you in some way, well, then I accept your need.

Correct me if I'm wrong...but this was the post I responded to:

Not a brain in his steroid fried head, give those clowns a tax break to leave town would be a better idea.

I asked you if you thought you were smarter than he is. You started the insults after that.

Thank you Amerigomag! I also respect someone who presents a logical political agenda or respectfully attempts to. If I'm ever so lucky to become an elected official, I will hope to govern in the best interests of all Americans.

You don't really want to drive Hollywood out of Southern California. Is what you actually want is to drive Hollywood's liberal bias out!

Please understand me clearly- I want to drive the liberal bias out of Hollywood.

Keep in mind that there are many conservatives in Hollywood who support President Bush and the right (Bo Derek, Bruce Willis, Clint Eastwood, Heather Locklear, Chuck Norris, Angie Harmon, Lara Flynn Boyle, "The Rock," Tom Selleck, Sarah Michelle Geller, Jessica Simpson, Kurt Russell ............ the list goes on and on).

Please re-read the article that I posted. The filmmakers are filming outside of Calfornia to get around California's heavy tax system. Arnold is proposing tax breaks to attract them back into California. Filming generates the economy- that's the purpose of having them shoot in California.

That's not many. If they're good, then they can make it without the subsidies. Ask Mel Gibson who, curiously, isn't on your list.

the list goes on and on).

Not long enough. Subsidies are not the answer any more than they are for tax funded stadia.

The whole concept of the tax breaks is to attract filmmakers back into California instead of going to foreign countries to shoot. When they film in California, it generates the economy and benefits all Californians.

Hollywood is part of our American tradition and patriotism. Let's keep Hollywood in Hollywood (while we drive out the liberal bias).

That Schwarzenegger intends to provide a tax break to a sector of California's business community should, on principal, irritate few on this forum. That his administrative authority and celebrity is being used to promote a state subsidy of California's motion picture industry will surprise no one, absolutely no one. What should concern us all is how he intends to finance this subsidy.

If he intends to utilize funds derived from the additional $10B bonding approval that he seeks through prop 76 or will simply increase California's annual budget to accommodate his largess, Schwarzenegger will be perceived as another European liberal doing his old business cronies a favor because he can. Still others will see his support as consideration for Nunez's support on unrelated matters, not necessarily public knowledge and probably equally specious.

If, on the other hand, Schwarzenegger proposes to approve and fund Nunez's legislation through cuts in existing state spending, instead of raising taxes or borrowing money, he will earn a modicum of my respect.

I read your article and your posts. You're coming in loud and clear. You don't want the movie studios to film outside of CA. We get it.

California's unfavorable tax system and other high operating costs have driven many businesses from the state, not just filmmakers. As such, I'm in favor of reducing taxes, but for EVERYONE not just for movie studios. We have a little principle in this country called "equal protection."

If you and Arnold want to kiss the movie studios' behinds, that's your right, but I'll oppose you. I don't much care for the garbage that Hollywood generates and don't think it should be given preferential tax treatment. If that means job losses, well, so be it. As for your argument that Hollywood is somehow special because it's part of "patriotism"... What decade are you living in? The 1940s?

As if I didn't understand that. Why is is more important to keep film-making than any other industry, many of which are also leaving because of taxation?

When they film in California, it generates the economy and benefits all Californians.

No, it benefits the film business to the exclusion of all others. Other businesses that have to pay for this subsidy do not benefit from the tax break. People they might have hired don't benefit either.

You are not going to sell me on special favors to one industry as good policy. It wouldn't matter if is was film or gardening.
