The Kremlin spent a fortune trying to influence the press, police, ministers and Indira Gandhi A HUGE cache of KGB records smuggled out of Moscow after the fall of communism reveal that in the 1970s India was one of the countries most successfully penetrated by Soviet intelligence.

A number of senior KGB officers have testified that, under Indira Gandhi, India was one of their priority targets.

“We had scores of sources through the Indian Government — in intelligence, counter-intelligence, the defence and foreign ministries and the police,” said Oleg Kalugin, once the youngest general in Soviet foreign intelligence and responsible for monitoring KGB penetration abroad. India became “a model of KGB infiltration of a Third World government”, he added.

Such claims have previously been ignored or brushed aside by Delhi. But the revelations from the KGB documents that form one of the biggest Western intelligence coups in recent years provide firm evidence for these claims. The records have been analysed in a new book about the KBG’s global operations, and the first extracts appear today in Times Books.

According to these top-secret records, brought to the West by Vasili Mitrokhin, a former senior archivist of the KGB, Soviet intelligence set out to exploit the corruption that became endemic under Indira Gandhi’s regime.

I do not believe that this statement is correct. The USA has done far more than most to reduce pollution, going to ridiculous extremes in many cases.

The USA has reduced its population increase, which is arguably the biggest threat/harm to environment, much more than most of the third world.

There is a lot of false propaganda about how evil the USA is, and it is sometimes difficult to find objective fact.

However, search for the truth and I have confidence that you will find the above assertion to be incorrect.

I'm just wondering when you plan on tackling the CHINESE ENVIRONMENTAL CATASTROPHE, OR WHAT ABOUT THE RUSSIAN ENVIRONMENTAL CATASTROPHE, OR WHAT ABOUT THE ENTIRE THIRD WORLD ENVIRONMENTAL CATASTROPHE??

Fact is, environmental whackos in the U.S. are nothing but looney tune Eco-COMMUNISTS! They don't care about the environment, they care about centralized government control of business. If the environment were REALLY their concern, China would be at the top of their target list and they'd not spend two seconds on the USA. The US is 1000 time cleaner than China.

Fact of the matter is that, if USA today has made a good life for its citizens, it is at a major cost to others. A USA citizen consumes more fuel & burns more fuel in his/her life.

Most Chinese travel to work in bicycles - pollution free. Most Americans by ....... any means of fuel driven vehicle...

Most 3rd world does not have so much burning of fuel as 1st or 2nd(??) world.

Roadcs & buildings in an average USA city or town may be cleaner than that in China, but then let me tell you that Chinese can maintain their cities or towns at a much lower energy consumed. If you in US use fuel guzzler machines to wash clothes at Home (well electricity is generated by some fuel right) Chinese & Indians & most asians can't afford it, so do it manually - actually a good exercise for the body (Ok that was a side dish).
