This needs to be sent to Tony Snow, Brit Hume and Rush Limbaugh.

Well the only way to truly fix this is to send the state $200 billion dollars more!

And enact the don't ask, don't tell policy on how the money is spent. Bush could even call it a down payment for slavery reparations.

Regarding #37, LA Times is excerpt-only, whether in article posts or replies.

I tried that. I played by the rules (as you can see) and the LA Times web police thwarted me. This article was available without a login from two separate sites before I posted it here as an excerpt.

I don't want to argue with you or cause a problem, but I thought that once an article had been published someplace it became public domain and I had the right to reprint it so long as I didn't profit from it and gave proper attribution.

PS - is there some reason why we cannot post a full article from the LA Times? If so, please tell me for future reference.

Senior officials in Louisiana's emergency planning agency already were awaiting trial over allegations stemming from a federal investigation into waste, mismanagement and missing funds when Hurricane Katrina struck. And federal auditors are still trying to track as much as $60 million in unaccounted for funds that were funneled to the state from the Federal Emergency Management Agency dating back to 1998. In March, FEMA demanded that Louisiana repay $30.4 million to the federal government.

Hmmmm ... Would these be the local officials that Mary Landrieu says we shouldn't criticize or she'll punch us in the face ????

I have a strong feeling the Dems are NOT going to be happy about the investigation they are demanding

Whoa! Notice that it goes back to the '90's. Hard to blame that on Bush, eh?

Maybe Katrina will in the end wash away deep seeded Louisiana graft, or at least uproot it a bit.

Thanks for the ping, Mo. Fascinating stuff!

Wonder if the FEMA records in LA were stored in one of the basements of NOLA?

And the check book in that handbag

The Officals in LA are gonna be watched Big Time!

Earlier this week, federal Homeland Security officials announced they would send 30 investigators and auditors to the Gulf Coast to ensure relief funds were properly spent

The timing is suspicious! /sarc

No, I'm "series". This breaks on a Saturday morning when it has the shortest legs. I'm glad that the good folks here at FR will make sure this story gets out.

The corruption in Louisiana go way back to the days of Hughie Long

I have a strong feeling there will be a lot of cleaning up in LA
