To: Eric in the Ozarks

My father was a ROK marine (the Korean equivalent of special forces) and getting the crap beat out was/is just part of routine training.

I checked the comments on the original Dalian newspaper article and boy how different they are to here. My generation in Korea is losing ALL respect for Confucian ideals...

In the 1950s when I was growing up on a military base in Japan, there was open debate as to which troops were meaner; the Turks or ROKs. My dad, who traveled to SK regularly, explained the ROK troop trainng regimen and left little doubt.
