It's worse than that. This all boils down to their fear that the Bush administration is going to take away their "right" to have an abortion by appointing "originalists" to the Supreme Court. Nothing more. That's all this is about. Abortions.
I would tend to disagree. While abortion is part of it, it's much larger than that. They have a vision, similar if not identical to that of such visionaries as Marx, Engels, Lenin, and Trotsky, of what they want society to become. The Constitution of the United States stands in the way of achieving that vision, if it is enforced. That's the prime job of the courts, particularly the appeals courts and the Supreme Court.
They haven't been able to even get much of their agenda passed by the people or their representatives but have gotten much of it passed by the courts, through distortion and outright reversal of the meanings of the provisions of the Constitution. If the Supreme Court and lower courts become staffed with those who would enforce the original meaning of the Constitution, the agenda of the Code Pinkos, MoveOn.orgs and their ilk will take major hits.
