SIERRA VISTA - When Fort Huachuca military police recognized a local man in a suspect photo, Wednesday's bank robbery investigation came together, according to Sierra Vista police.
"Military police recognized the subject as someone who delivers pizzas on post," Sierra Vista police Sgt. Glenn Hillig said Thursday.
The MPs then contacted city police detectives.
James A. Vigg, 22, was arrested on a robbery charge shortly after midnight Thursday in connection to a silent robbery at Compass Bank, 211 S. Carmichael Ave.
The alleged robber passed a note to a female teller at about 1:50 p.m. Wednesday and left with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Police didn't know what direction the man fled, but did have a high-resolution photograph of the alleged robber.
Sierra Vista police began distributing a photo clip recorded by a surveillance camera during the robbery, which led to the suspect's identification.
Cochise County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Carol Capas said Vigg lives at Sterling Pointe Apartments, which is located a block south of the bank.
Vigg was arrested at his residence after police served a search warrant.
"Detectives were able to recover 100 percent of the money taken in the robbery, as well as other vital evidence linking Vigg to the robbery," according to a Sierra Vista Police Department press release.
Vigg is being held at the Cochise County Jail. His bond was set Thursday morning at $100,000.
According to the Arizona Supreme Court's public access to court information Web site, Vigg was found guilty in March on a charge of theft-control of property in Sierra Vista Justice Court.
Hillig said Vigg was "very cooperative" at the time of his arrest.
Investigators believe Vigg acted alone, Sierra Vista police Detective Jon Kosmider said.
Police said the robber apparently didn't say a word during the robbery. The man did not display or imply that he had a weapon during the robbery, and there were no injuries during the robbery, including the people who were aware of the robbery in progress, according to police interviews with witnesses.
Compass Bank officials in Alabama said the company has no-comment policy regarding robberies.
Latest entry into the Dumbest Criminals Hall of Fame.
I know that at least three of the gate guards know me on sight...you can tell by their expressions and the cursory glance they give my ID card. They even recognize me when I'm in something other than my truck.
Yeah, this guy was dumber than a box o' rocks!
Typical DUer!
I know what you mean. When I was still going to Ragatz every day they knew my green truck at 50 yards and me on sight.
See, crime doesn't pay.
the guy robs banks and still has to deliver pizzas to make ends meet.
sad story.
All he did was ask. correct?
What weapon? what threat? none!
Can we convict all of the politicians for their begging?
At least this guy posed no threat unlike those in congress.
if we send politicans to prison, we still have to pay them. so might as well keep them our eye on them in congress.
You have a point - we should elect this guy to be the next US Senator from Massachusetts!!
Did you hear about the one who went into a bank and said, "OK stickers, this is a f*%#-up."? I heard he left when everyone started laughing. I think I heard this from my kids as a Darwin nominee. I could believe it.
Are we sure this pizza delivery guy isn't an O. Henry character? He's not pulling in a lot of dough although he does have some crust sticking up a bank without a mask. Perhaps the poor guy is just looking for free room and board for the next 10-20 years. In a few weeks he can plead guilty and be in a nice warm cell by winter.
ummmm,... and dance arkie for bubba for the next 20 years.
BTTT!!!!!!
