I gotta differ with this article.
Barbra (sic) Streissand has an amazing God-given talent which she has squandered. She speaks of things that she is completely ignorant of, insulting fans who appreciate the God-given talent which she so abuses.
Bono is a fairly talented singer. But certainly not in Barbra (sic) Streissand's league. He is not legendary for his voice, but for his band's songwriting. And a politically charged lyrical content has always been central to U2's music, including several of their most successful and earliest works (New Year's Day, Sunday Bloody Sunday, Pride (in the Name of Love), etc.)
Bono's activism, which has always been non-partisan, was first fueled by the environment he came from: Ireland. Agree with his conclusion or not, he has spent more time forming and refining his political positions than most politicians.
It's not because Barbra sings that she should keep her damn mouth shut; it's because she's an ignorant buffoon who is famous only through an amazing gift which she possesses through no strength of character of her own.
<< Just when you thought it was finally safe to at least take in a U2 concert without being subjected to more political rhetoric... <<
Sorry, but what kind of a fool would write something like that? It makes about as much sense as, "Just when you thought it was finally safe to sit in a crowd of 70,000 rowdies at Giants Stadium without being subjected to another football game..."
The writer obviously never listened to U2's music before in his life.
No doubt.
But people react differently to a song and a lecture.
