"I predict that we'll see a large Mexican population in New Orleans within two years."

A new food trend, Mex-Creole fusion.

The other question that comes up, if these people don't move back to NOLA, does that mean less rebuilding there? Who will answer these questions?

you only asked one question. the answer, no, more building.

why? Because those who fled years before the storm to escape from the eventual evacuee's, will want to return to their home town. Less crime and less evacuee's makes a very charming City.

"Dude, put down the pipes; THEY [Ray Nagin & CHristine Blanco] don't HAVE a "Voting Base" anymore..."

Actually, they still do. All the Orleanians that relocate to other states. Those names are on the voter rolls. Do you really think their absence is going to keep votes from being cast under those names? If enough people leave Louisiana, the ghost vote will swamp all of the righteous returnees that cast votes agains Blank-O and Nag-Again

Well, I can understand after everything I've learned, why many would want to try to make a better life for themselves somewhere other than NO. I hope that's the case with the folks who want to stay in Houston.

I suspect that the population of NOLA is going to be reduced, even after the rebuilding takes place.

Never fear, though--it'll cost us like the city was doubling!

They have already started with Jesse proclaiming these people too ignorant to adapt and need to be back in NO. The governor sent her kids to try to convince them that they need to return.

They're Americans. They can live wherever they damn well please. The dems really do view people not as individuals, but as voting blocs.

I thought the same thing you did, that at some point, the dems will try to tell all NO residents that they MUST return. I am sure too that the dems will be crazy with absentee ballots being sent out all over, claiming NO residents' right to vote in LA.

You're right! The Dems just picked up TWO votes for every one 'registered' in LA, so they'll have Demo votes in TWO states for every one refugee. Damn clever strategy! Too bad Rove and Bush didn't psych that out before they ordered up Katrina to strike all those poor neighborhoods.

This is why the dems avoided evacuation. The decent people that were evacuated that didn't own property aren't going to put their lives on hold waiting for NO to reopen. They are going to get jobs and establish roots where they are and get on with their lives. The welfare types aren't going to care where they are as long as the checks cash.

Thats why the State of Texas needs its own Department of Immigration. If you don't have a Texas Passport, you get deported. They should be easy to get, all you needs to get one is to show that you are a legal US resident, and you are fully self-reliant.
You sir, no Texas Passport? Get on bus A for deportation to Louisiana. Bus B goes South.
US Immigration doesn't want to do its job, I rekon Texas will. The State of Louisiana doesn't want to take care of their own government dependent citizens? Well, its like the song says, "you don't have to go home, but you cant stay here."....
There I go again on a daydreaming tangent.

if they stay on Houston, will they become wards of the state, New Orleans style, or are they going to learn self-reliance (Texas style) ?

They will learn self reliance the same way the millions of illegal Mexicans have worked to assimilate themselves into US culture.

I heard some guy interviewed on the radio outraged that he had to wait 6 hours in line for an application for food stamps and then wait in aother line for 6 hours to get them.

Jefferson has some big legal troubles..which is why he won't be able to fight for his district..but if you lose 200,000. give or take form ONE CD, and add 200k to one or two others..then you have to redistrict..

Looks to me like this would be an excellent excuse to purge the voters roll...In fact it would almost seem a necessity.

They'll vote their interests in their new communities in their new home states.

There was a time in Texas, not so awful long ago, when winning a Democratic primary was tantamount to winning the general election.  A Republican couldn't get elected dogcatcher.

Interests and allegiances change.  Time will tell whether or not these new voters in new states remember why they're new voters in new states.  If they do, I think it likely most will not be voting for Democrats.
