Isn't emergency planning what DHS was supposed to be about in the FIRST PLACE?????
The critics definately can't say he doesnt' have a plan. And he gave those looking for it, hope.
Thank you for your comments. My very large family down here has lost everything they own, one uncle retired in August and was proud that he'd just paid off his home in St. Bernard parish.
What insurance they have does not recover memories, sentimental items and photographs of the passage of time.
There will be a reckoning with politicians, local and state crooks and environmentalists about where the money designated to improve levees went for the last forty years. People will have to be held accountable for stopping improvements and for diverting (stealing funds) but this is not the moment for that.
This is a time to help families put their lives and homes back together.
And remind me? Who builds American cities to begin with? - Is it the Federal Gov't?? Is that a new role for the Federal Gov't in modern America?
It is ridiculously silly to rebuild a city below sea level again and then do so with our wallets wide open (they are already overspending their estimates by $1 billion a day! - If you rebuild an entire city on the Federal dime it will cost at a minimum 500% more...at the min level. Then if it were rebuilt by those individuals who wanted to be located there or by the State and local levels - Federal dollars will be wasted faster then any of us can even imagine. It is already happening). It is foolishness to say "oh well, what can we do" -
The encouraging of private enterprise to come in and create new jobs will be an economy boost, the feds will have to finance the roads and bridges..That will create lots of jobs..
NO will be a better city if job training and education is improved..The problem is that LA pols will fight the letting go of their own little crooked games...and their own crooked government practices.
