2005-2001 = 4

You call it obtuse. I call it accuracy.

I actually don't like the President's spending........on things like the Farm Bill and the Transportation bill.

But this is money for people in great need (and your johnny one note 'flood insurance' song is irrelevant after the fact).

Do you even have a clue as to the level of destruction there is in an area as large as the entire United Kingdom? Are you aware that entire communities are completely GONE? Do you really believe that we, as a free and caring people, should not help rebuild the Gulf region for the good of our country and our economy?

How self-centered and short sighted are you?

The President has proposed helping these people get themselves back on their feet. Conservatives should be applauding that.

Actually, we are..........

I call it a typo. Why have not addressed the massive spending that Bush has engaged in? That was my poinnt and you've done nothing but focus on minutia.

why can't we simply pay a one time stipend to each family who is unable to return to NO because their home is in a portion of the city that is unrecoverable in the short term? what's wrong with that, give them money (plus private charity money) and let them relocate someplace else.

and let's be honest, had New Orleans not flooded, and had the Dems/MSM not been able to politicize this - do you think that a similar federal program would have been commited to just MS and AL for rebuilding? Had this just occurred in MS and AL, this would have been a 2 day story in the MSM at best.

No, not with federal money. I didn't tell the people of the gulf coast to live so close to the coast and not have flood insurance. I have no problem with the federal government helping out with emergency aid, but not with rebuilding.

I have no problems with the federal government rebuilding their holdings in the affected area. I do have problems with the federal governemnt repeatedly bailing out irresponsible behavior. I have the same problem every year with the mudslides in California.

If a person wants to live in an area prone to natural disasters then they should get insurance. Most people could manage to acquire a Porsche if they put their mind to it, but it is the insurance cost that is the kicker.

I have no problem with the d

The key words the President spoke was HELPING PEOPLE GET BACK ON THEIR FEET. He is not speaking permanent help.

I see alot of long term Freepers tonight in dispute.

This disaster is unprecendented. Of course the feds need to be involved when a state cant handle the situation. Yes, I know the Constitution doesnt grant this provision. However, when looking at the cooperation of different levels of Govt(in any normal situation), the feds are best equip to do it.

Any info on earlier disasters, Galveston, Chicago and SF fires. The population was alot smaller, but did the cities and states handle the rebuild on their own? I dont have the answer but am curious to know.
