I'm not white and I didn't need anybody brandishing a "weapon" to pull me from the RATs and into conservative beliefs. All I needed was limited government and my tax dollars being managed in a sound manner, something the President does not believe in now.
What is it now, something like $30 TRILLION since LBJ from decent hardworking taxpayers that have been spent on the black hole of "poverty"? And President Bush is still blaming "discrimination" for New Orleans??? C'mon!!!!!!!! People came to this nation in the early 1900s with no English and no money and NO GOVT FREEBIES. They found a way to help themselves and they looked within their inner self for desire to build a foundation around them financially through their own efforts, NOT the government's.
Probably 80% or more on Free Republic.com tonight are third or fourth generation descendants of Europeans who came to this country with NOTHING and were GIVEN NOTHING but survived, prospered and taught their children how to think for themselves and believe in themselves and help each other in times of crisis.
Just the fact that thousands of posts at FR tonight are being made tonight by the children of these immigrants who had as hard (OR HARDER) than blacks have had in New Orleans and elsewhere proves that what we saw in New Orleans is due to one thing only--a group of people who refuse to climb out of the cellar and look within themselves to "move up the ladder" the way the ancestors of nearly every single person posting on Free Republic.com tonight had to do.
For President Bush to say the New Orleans scene was due to "racial discrimination" is a kick in the groin to the pain and sweat my ancestors gave to teach my "minority family" how to get ahead in life. My nonwhite ancestors came to this nation in 1908 and had a far, far harder time than any black person in New Orleans. My grandparents did not receive one penny of any $30 TRILLION social welfare kitty.
Your comment about "a powerful weapon to continue to pull black voters from the Democrats" is atrocious. Our Commander in Chief should not be concerned about voting blocks. He should be concerned about the future of this nation and the giant screwing that is being done to decent taxpayers of this nation.
Awesome post.....!
Sanity prevails and it only took 2000 post to get there...!

Sounds like you're saying there is no discrimination. Well I know white folks who definitely discriminated.
Although I agree that a certain percentage of blacks pull themselves up, I think there is a segment that cannot because they don't have the mindset, have never been told they can (not educated), or are afraid to try. These are the ones who fall victims to those who discriminate.
Europeans arrived in the New World with Freedom and opportunity.
Blacks came involuntarily in chains.
Your argument collapses before it begins.
Where are your ancestors from?
Please give us the exact quote where he said that.
Cite in the speech where he mentioned that. If he said that, and he didn't, I'd be calling him on the carpet too, and I'm white.

...and help each other in times of crisis.
Bush's speech, teaches "neighbor helping neighbor", something you've had a problem with.

Would you trade your grandparents who were motivated to hard work and improvement for their children, with grandparents who thought that a life on the dole was adequate?
I thought not. Praise your antecedants, and pray that President Bush's plans will break the stranglehold that the dem giveaway philosophy has had on these destitute (psychologically) folks. In every generation more American blacks overcome poverty and join an anonymous middle class. The truely helpless and hopeless have been coddled and simultaneously held down by the "soft bigotry etc ...
This is a chance for a whole new direction for thousands of people.
