I guess that some Sociology professors still experiment with hallucinogenic drugs to "expand their minds".
You're right, but just think if it happened in "one of the most crime and drug infested cities in the country", that ALSO happened to be in one of the left-wing, gun-grabbing "Peoples Republics" in the northeast or in California, or some other socialist-run hell-hole where they don't allow law-abiding citizens to own, much less USE for self-protection, FIREARMS?
Think of the out-of-control rioting, looting, and shooting (and other violent crime) with a similar disaster in such virtually GUN-FREE (except for limited police and numerous criminals) zones like Washington D.C., or Chicago, or Filthadelphia, or Detroit, or NYC.
Hell, you don't have to just imagine it. Look at the L.A. riots. Those inner-city democrat "constituents" (not just a skin color issue, but a violent culture created, in large part, by the demonRAT-instigated welfare/nanny state) didn't even need the excuse of a natural disaster to go on a violent rampage.
In that case, with the police refusing to go in, the ONLY limitation to their looting and violence, was law-abiding citizens, like the Korean store owners, that defended themselves, their property, their livelihoods, and their fellow citizens, with firearms - even with "evil" (in the mind of liberal gun-grabbers), so-called "asault weapons", like the semi-automatic AR-15.
I wonder if sales of such firearms, which are demonstrably superior to many other weapons for the extreme version of "crowd control" needed in such a situation as the Katrina aftermath, will explode?
Just wondering, since I've already got a couple of them, along with plenty of extra magazines, and plenty of rounds. :)

Good point - if this happened in a "Gun Free" Zone, it would have been far far worse. I think the people of NO were relatively peacefull because they realized there were plentytof armed citizens protecting their own.
I admit the bicycles & TV's & DVD Players & such are unacceptable looting, but it looked like those cops were taking shoes & socks. They'd been neck deep in nasty, filthy flood water for days, probably been doing everything they could to help folks for days, without adequate support & command & control. Those women officers either had family or knew of others needs in the middle of a disaster that they didn't run from. They were there, in uniform.
Have mercy dude. It was a disaster, that after it hit there was no where to go & no help and no way to leave. Their feet would've had to been puckered, raw and maybe infected from wading for a couple days in putrid flood water. There was no fresh water, no way to wash yourself or anything, everything is destroyed, nothing is functional & either they or someone they knew needed shoes, in the middle of a disaster. You are being merciless.
Have mercy. They weren't just looting for the sake of looting.
No surprise here. No doubt this spin is happening because it was mostly blacks looting. Rather than point out that these blacks are criminals who prey on both blacks and whites the sociologist will make them POOF go away.
They would be better off being honest and showing how looters and rioters have the most detrimental effect on poor blacks and their neighborhoods.
The looting happened. The why does not really matter.
What matters is taking steps to prevent it from happening again.
We all say wait till the data comes out. Now who do you suppose will compile this data? It wont be FEMA, it wont be the military, it may be the NG but they are STILL under the command of the Gov.
So will you believe the data.
I think I am a cynic - a question: Those that may have a complaint do you think could be paid off?
Lootting is theft. Period.
And you apparently totally missed the "undocumented consumers" as satire...
Intellectuals is sooooo stoopit.
I agree, the 'cops looting' shots looked like they were going for 'foul weather' re-dress and looked sheepish perhaps only because they weren't stopping the looters around them. I assumed the other cops might have sent "the girls" out shopping...
Then stealing under dire circumstances is OK. Period.
It's funny how events can change our perspectives. The measure you have used is the measure that will be used against you. After a few days of someone in your family being truly 'needy' you don't think you'll be 'looting'?
James 2:12 Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom, 13because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment!
I still think you should be merciful to those that survived this disaster. Yes it was stupid to live in a fish bowl, waiting to be flooded, but not being prepared to be flooded. Yes it was stupid to watch an approaching hurricane & not flee it. However, their previous experiences with hurricanes did not include the total destruction wrought by this one. Be merciful, it may be you needing mercy tomorrow.
That being said, they should not be allowed to rebuild that city in a fish bowl.
Thanks for the ping!
No. I'm prepared to take care of me & mine without having to resort to theft.
Oh, and by the way, you might want to scroll back up and look at post #22 again...can you say "sarcasm"? Lighten up, oh humorless one.
Be prepared to offer ammunition to the looters. One per customer.
Just necessities...okay?
OK
except now I'm torqued by the GWB's speech in which he's promised a $5000 bill for every adult in the U.S.
How will I send my kids to college now?
Ya, and they are going to say they 'saw' only a few episodes of it. Like everyone in NO was walking around with a videocam during the exact instances!!
The NO police only had one boat in the water, according to the report.
