Being a schoolyard brawl, I don't think the criminal courts are called for. Plus the violence was obviously incited, so he might even get off completely in front a jury. But he did break the rules, so he can't just get off without some kind of action. What action would depend on the kid's history.

Taking responsibility means pleading guilty and taking the consequences. If a jury is involved that means the assailant pleaded not guilty. Pleading not guilty is not taking responsibility. I thought you were all for people taking responsibility.

How does pleading not guilty equate to taking responsibility?

Fine, then he might get off with a slap on the wrist from the judge. We really are talking a lot here without knowing the case. Was the white kid (hehe, I accidentally typoed 'shite' instead of 'white', and 'shite' is, um, 'excrement' in Britain, and appropriate) a known racist and troublemaker? The article seems to say he defended his shirt with more racist remarks. What were those remarks? Was the black kid a known troublemaker and maybe racist himself? All of this goes into how it should be handled.
