Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco's abrupt decision Wednesday night to take responsibility for her state's inadequate response to the Hurricane Katrina disaster followed an inadvertent confession that was caught on camera where Blanco admitted she blew it.
"I really should have called for the military," Blanco said, while chatting with her press secretary in between TV interviews. "I really should have started that in the first call."
Unbeknownst to Blanco, her bombshell acknowledgment was recorded on a network satellite feed, and by Tuesday the clip was getting wide exposure in Louisiana news broadcasts.
In the early days of the Katrina crisis, disaster management experts repeatedly blamed the failure to send in the National Guard for the city's descent into chaos.
Most observers blamed the White House for the blunder - a misconception that was thoroughly dispelled by the governor's inadvertent confession. Some say Blanco's blooper was responsible for the abrupt change of tone in her speech Wednesday night to the Louisiana legislature.
Where earlier she and her aides had openly blamed the Bush administration for bungling Katrina rescue efforts, Blanco announced: "The buck stops here, and as your governor, I take full responsibility."
Just as surprising were Blanco's words of praise for the White House: "I want the people of Louisiana to know that we have a friend and a partner in President George W. Bush. I thank you, Mr. President."
Maybe she wants the President to help bail her out of the political storm to come. Please Mr. President, don't do it!
Have another serving of crow Blanco???!!!!
He will! She should be charged with negligent homocide and impeached for not following the disaster plan. Bush will roll over as usual.

One of these days, I would like to see these articles come from someplace other than NewsMax.
Proof there is an alternate universe where truth may be told. Man will occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of the time he will pick himself up and continue on. - Churchill
"Taking responsibility" is in this case about as meaninful as a kid saying "I'm sorry" with his fingers crossed behind his back.

Oh, boy, she is sweating it! And I bet she has already received some FLAMING phone calls from Hitlery -- for saying Bush did what was right -- OMG, she is toast, in more ways that one!!!
Can you imagine how upset Teddy, Hitlery, Durbin, Leahy and the rest of the radical leftist, anti-Bush mob are???
Nagin & Blanco = "DUMB & DUMBER!"
NO SH*T LADY! I hope W doesn't give her cover but he is always too civilized - I trait that I think puts him a most Republicans at a significant disadvantage in the Dem/MSM mud-wrestling matches.
I don't think Blanco would have taken responsibility until Bush first took responsibility. Even in shouldering the blame, Bush takes leadership.
Had Blanco taken the blame a week ago, it would have taken all the air out of the "blame Bush" crowd. Now the media and the historians will re-write this saga to say the feds didn't do enough and Bush belatedly took responsibility when it really should have been a state operation with the feds providing assistance.
"Mistakes were made."
So ALL VICTIMS OF BLANCO's failure, Go to court and sue that woman for being the racist liberal freak show that she is. That is the American Way.
Looks like someone turned up the thermostat. Heat must have gotten to her.
Blanco lied and others died.
Yeah, is this story on Reuters? Oh no, they're busy with that whole "Bush uses the bathroom" scoop...
