"Gensburg, in turn, smiles when he good-naturedly tells Gorham the Second Amendment does not guarantee the right to own arms."

Yes the good natured smirk of the highly evolved liberal lawyer who knows that the Constitution must be made say what changing 'community values' wish it to say. That the 2nd Amendment really means the government should own all the guns to protect us from dangerous primitive thinkers.

Yes the good natured smirk of contempt the liberal has mastered as his trademark expression when confronting a normal American.

A Winchester 94 is a great "bear" arm .

Vermont Liberals -- who have move-in in increasing numbers from MA and NY -- HATE this:

Constitution of the State of Vermont

Article 16. [Right to bear arms; standing armies; military power subordinate to civil] That the people have a right to bear arms for the defence of themselves and the State -- and as standing armies in time of peace are dangerous to liberty, they ought not to be kept up; and that the military should be kept under strict subordination to and governed by the civil power.

Gorham said Vermont is very high in the percentage of guns owned per capita, and he believes that's "part of the reason we have been safe for so long."

The problem is the "we" are not safe. Although the left has not moved much to take away gun rights here in Vermont, they have done so on just about every other right. I am getting tired of such complacency as Vermont continues to out pace almost every other state in the nation on the path toward socialism. This state was once a beacon of individual liberty and local community; those days are now a distant memory.

What a strange article. It must have been heavily edited from its original form since it is now all over the lot.

What a "refreshing" article. Claims of an individual right to keep and bear arms is protected by the Second Amendment balanced by claims that the Second Amendment is a protection of government power. The truth balanced by a lie.

"And the Clinton administration launched an attack on people in Texas because those people were religious nuts with guns. Hell, this country was founded by religious nuts with guns. Who does Bill Clinton think stepped ashore on Plymouth Rock? Peace Corps volunteers? Or maybe the people in Texas were attacked because of child abuse. But, if child abuse was the issue, why didn't Janet Reno tear-gas Woody Allen?" - P. J. O'Rourke, "The Liberty Manifesto", The American Spectator, July, 1993.

The people of Vermont don't get it. They've been taken over by the CommuDems. The artsy-fartsy crowd who seemingly moved in over night are socialists and communists. They hate America and everything it stands for. These are the knuckle-dragging unwashed hippy left-overs from Haight-Asbury! Vermont now belongs to the Communists!
