(AP) -- Echoing the words of President Bush a day earlier, Gov. Kathleen Blanco took responsibility Wednesday for failures and missteps in the immediate response to Hurricane Katrina and pledged a united effort to rebuild New Orleans and the surrounding parishes ravaged by the storm.

"We all know that there were failures at every level of government: state, federal and local. At the state level, we must take a careful look at what went wrong and make sure it never happens again. The buck stops here, and as your governor, I take full responsibility," Blanco told lawmakers in a special meeting of the Louisiana Legislature

Isn't she insufferable? I guess she decided that she
couldn't stand the heat and was jealous of G.W.B's Trumanesque statement and just had to jump on
the bandwagon.
I don't think Mayor Nagin is going to catch that train.

"At the state level, we must take a careful look at what went wrong and make sure it never happens again."

Uhm, Ms Blanco, you said the exact same thing after Hurricane Ivan hit last year.

If you insist on using last year's talking points, at least update them [and your evac plan]

"The buck stops here"

Sounds like graft to me. ;-)

Somehow, the impact of this, after the presidents pledged to hold himself and his administration accountable, seems rather diminished. "Me too, me too!"

Based on her performance it sounds like Gov Blanco just jumped in front of train, not on it.

The only way to prevent this from happening again is get rid of the cause. That cause is Blanco. She had plenty of opportunities to learn from the previous hurricane threats that weakened before they hit. The fact is she didn't. No point in trying again.

Sorry, BlankO, too little too late. Now this dumb witch should resign. In the video clip of her supposedly accepting responsibility, she awkwardly points at herself, like she practiced the motion in front of the mirror. She is sick!

Just the day before at a photo-op where no questions where supposed to be asked and no statements given, she suddenly starts slamming the DOD for their slow response in retrieving the bodies of those who have died.

But it was under her order that the DOD could not enter homes or actually retrieve bodies. Only the police department and the coroner could do so.

She'll blow her top again despite jumping on board for half a day.

I got a good morning laugh while reading the rest of the article:

Rep. Arthur Morrell, D-New Orleans, said Blanco should have criticized FEMA and complained about the diversion of National Guard members overseas, guardsmen he said could have prevented looting and violence in New Orleans in the days following the storm.

"If we had the National Guard here instead of in Iraq, we wouldn't have had riots," Morrell said.

...and...

"I assure the Congress and every American taxpayer that every nickel will be properly spent," Blanco said.

Well, I was expecting to read that she agreed with George Bush said something like, "yes, the buck stops there, over there, with the administration." ;)

Seriously, though, I think you're right. She looked bad in comparison to Dubya.

It doesn't matter, though--the truth has and will come out and then it will be clear that her words are meaningless. She has blood on her hands and this is all talk.

I don't think much of Blanco, but this is better than hysterical blaming that was going on earlier, and President Bush led the way to the High Ground--yet again.

I saw her speech on C-SPAN. A couple of things struck me about what she said. First, she said that the Federal Government will compensate the state of LA 100% for the damages caused by Katrina. She also thanked President Bush for his support. It drew the biggest applause of the evening.

Blanco's political career is basically finished. Her only hope is to climb on the federal government's gravy train, which will rebuild the area. She hopes to claim some of the credit.
