UT System proposes sites for Bush library

The University of Texas System today unveiled a proposal to host President George W. Bush's library and museum that suggests three possible sites, one in Austin and two in Dallas.

The local site would be the UT-Brackenridge tract along Lake Austin Boulevard, just west of MoPac Boulevard (Loop 1). The other sites are a downtown property in Dallas and the campus of UT-Dallas.

UT System officials also proposed a secondary site at UT-San Antonio to serve as a high-security conference center for world leaders and scholars.

Donald Evans, a former commerce secretary, and Marvin Bush, the president's brother, sought the proposals on behalf of the president and first lady Laura Bush. Thursday is the deadline for submissions. Several other universities and colleges in Texas, as well as the City of Arlington, are expected to submit proposals.

BWAHAHAHA....why in the world would anyone who cares about Pres. Bush come to Austin, the blue anus of Texas? I think SMU is the logical place for W's library because it is Laura's alma mater, and they will be buying a home in Dallas.

I thought SMU was already chosen. UT already has the Johnson Library and A&M has Bush pere. SMU would be logical -- or Baylor because of its proximity to Crawford.

At first I revolted at the idea of UT wanting it in Austin. Then I reconcidered imagining how many tea sippers would have strokes, hahahahaha!

SMU has the best location and a solid Republican base. Laura Bush went to school there. I vote SMU.

UT System? Why would the Bush library be placed in Tennessee?

I agree that SMU is the front runner, that Dallas is a solid Republican base leaves some doubt. Dallas voted for Klinton - twice- and has been giving close to 40% DemocRat votes in many city wide elections. Right now the Mayor and sheriff are of the Democrat persuasion. The yellow dog democRat has not yet been put to sleep.

Texas Tech is in the bidding. West Texas would be the perfect place for a man's man to put his library. Austin? As they say, keep Austin wierd.

UT Dallas gets my vote. They have plenty of space, and check out these directions:

Take the George Bush Tollway to Independence Parkway. Go south on Independence until you see UTD on your right.

Who can beat that?

I meant the school is conservative in its student body compared to most schools., at least when I went in the late 70s. (SMU-Best team money can buy!)

Tech would be a great place. My son graduated from there, and George Bush 41 chose their president as his first Secretary of Education.

Given the times, it would be very cool to have a presidential library be almost entirely online.
