FYI. Thought you'd be interested in this.
Thanks Dave.
My comment was...
"Using the red crescent as a memorial to Flight 93 is akin to building a holocaust museum in the shape of a swastika."
Says it all.
Of course, some would say that a swastika is merely a symbol for embracing the the poor Nazis who didn't realize what they were doing and should be memorialized.
Did you see this:

To fix it, a statue was commissioned and added to it, The lefty artist who designed the original wall (Maya Lin ) was upset because it changed the whole thrust of the memorial. DAMN RIGHT
What's missing and needed, instead of this crap, is a statue of some passengers in the same spirit of the vietnam memorial (possibly by the same artist), with the inscription "Let's Roll!".
Have THAT face Mecca
Yep.....but we must keep up the pressure.....a name change is not enough. They need to get rid of anything resembling The Islamic Crescent.
Please read post #78 and ask your FRiends to make the call. They are writing down comments & everyone should put their name & address on the list to be notified about the changes & final proposal!
This afternoon I called this number and spoke with Adam who is taking comments on the proposed Memorial. Superintendent Hanley is unavailable.
Superintendent - Flight 93 National Memorial
(814) 443-4557
He told me the name has been changed from 'Crescent of Embrace' to 'Circle of Embrace'....but he said it is a broken circle interruped by path of the plane's crash site.
I said that just changing the name isn't the solution and that the offensive crescent symbol must be removed or modified.
I asked if there will be public hearings before the Memorial plan is finalized.
He was uncertain....but he said I could leave my name & address to be put on a list to receive written notice early in 2006 when the NPS's 'General Management' discusses the final plans.
He also took down my comments objecting to the present proposal.
FRiends: Please call ASAP and ask others to do so:

There is a momentum for change now and we must keep demanding a more fitting Memorial for those brave men & women who fought the Islamic terrorists on 9-11-01 and saved the US Capitol or the White House as well as countless more innocent American lives.
Only one little problem with your tagline....
It seems that the Republicans and Bush in particular is starting to call it by the same name.
I'm painfully aware of that.
However, the fault ultimately lies with the voters, who get the government they deserve. As long as the voters prefer a nanny State that provides the funds for bread and circuses, that's what the elected politicians will glady give them.
Ranting at faithless politicians accomplishes nothing. Educating your friends, family and neighbors is the only approach that has any chance of working. Instead of criticizing others for a failure to lead, be a leader yourself.
"... and that modifications in the design would be made to squelch a controversy that threatened to 'blemish the intent of the memorial,' she said"
I got the impression from this statement that the architect has already made the choice to change the design and it will not resemble a crescent.
I will keep responding though .. just so they know we mean business.
Thanks for the links, Julie. I'll write tomorrow.
Thanks for joining the effort!
Ohhhh, I don't know. I think there should be SOMETHING to remember the terrorists who died on flight 93. Like, maybe their names engraved on the back of the urinals in the mens room there - to be used for "target practice". For privacy, the restrooms could be shaped like a 'crescent of embrace'. And, of course, don't forget the koran toilet paper. Of course, we should make sure the whole thing faces mecca!
I agree about educating your neigbors, friends, and family. It is practically a full time job for me.
Thank you AG...I hope that the design changes and believe if it does, it will be because hundreds of thousands, even million of Americans express outrage and distaste for this horrible design.
You are very welcome my friend...I hope this thread, coupled with the many, many others on this forum and across the web, and couple with the pro-active actions of millions of Americans, makes a difference.
Thank you! The thinbking on why this is inappropriate is so crystal clear IMHO...but it takes a lot of clarity and bright light to cut through, and burn through, some of today's fuzzy logic and politically correct mushy thinking.
I saw that and hope we, as a growing and rising tidal wave of dissaproval can bring about a change in more than the name.
