Killing brings out all the worst instincts in us, and with each such act that is done in our name we lose a little of our humanity, of our kindness and our grace.

Texans are a peaceable lot. We live and love just like you do. Many of us are Catholics too.

Texas now has life without parole, which will likely be used as much or more than the death penalty.

But, up until this year, a killer was eligible for parole after 30 years. That's why DAs pursued the death penalty, so that people like this child killer wouldn't be sitting in a McDonald's in 15 years, eating french fries, free as a bird.

What a chilling thought. Of course, there are people like this already roaming our streets. I'd feel much more comfortable if they had been executed.
