I have to say I think the cinematography is good.
I think most Hollywood likes it for the scene where the people in the fancy restaurant are listening to the workers sing the "Internationale". They know what's coming two reels later.
What the Hollywood lefties don't understand is that they're the ones in the fancy restaurant and when their beloved revolution comes, they'll be the first in line to be shot.
Idiots.

It was among the last of those big, sprawling movies. And remember, the novel and Pasternak were banned in the Soviet Union when it came out.

Agreed! Although, I was disappointed to learn that much of Dr. Z was shot in Spain -- in the heat of summer -- no wonder you can't see the actors' breath when they talk!
