Do lots of us freepers like "Red Dawn"? I've always liked that movie. Oh well, I'm just a patriot.

the movie is beautiful to look at though. Lean also made something of a travesty out of A Passage to India. Surprising since his early Dickens adaptations are so good. I got around half way through the book so I need to get back to it. It doesn't have that high of a literary rep these days. Nabokov used to love talking about how badly written it was. Pasternak's greatness lay in his poetry. I speak Russian and his own poetry is of a very high order and his translations of Shakespeare and the English Romantic Poets into Russian have not been surpassed.

With this crowd, I'd just play with their heads, and answer, "The Passion of the Christ," "Red Dawn," and ... "Ernest Goes to Camp."

One movie that was shockingly conservative: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Brilliant!

The thing most Americans don't understand about Dr. Zhivago is that by Russian standards, the story ends happily..............
Years ago, I met some Russians in Moscow who wanted to know all about the movie (in our discussions).
A few years later, when they had all emigrated here, I had them up from New York for a visit, and showed it to them for the first time. They were disappointed, reason being that to them, the story had more political meaning and our version was too much an exercise in romanticsm.
Still my favorite, though.

Answering "The Passion of Christ" would have left them stunned.

LOVE North by Northwest. Dr. Zhivago was asi-asi.
If I were Roberts, I would've thrown Schumer a curveball and named Pink Flamingos as my favorite movie. It wouldn't be too wise to say Triumph of the Will.
