DoD Announces Recruiting and Retention Numbers for August
DoD ^

Posted on 09/13/2005 6:56:05 PM PDT by jmc1969

Active duty recruiting. The Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force met or exceeded its recruiting goals in August.

Active duty retention. All services met or exceeded their overall retention goals for August and are projected to meet their retention goals for the current fiscal year.

Reserve forces recruiting. Three of the six reserve components, Marine Corps Reserve, Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve, met or exceeded their August recruiting goals. The Navy Reserve numbers are unavailable due to system failures as a result of Hurricane Katrina.

Reserve forces retention. For August, Army National Guard retention was 103 percent of the cumulative goal of 29,472, and Air National Guard retention was 108 percent of its cumulative goal of 9,307. Losses in all reserve components in July were within acceptable limits. Indications are that trend continued into August. Attrition remains quite low in the Marine Corps Reserve and the Air Force Reserve.

Say what? Weren't they so far behind the military was in danger of collapsing? What did you say? The recruiting cycle isn't even year round and usually picks up at the end?

...nevermind :)

There were scores of stories a few months back after the Army missed it's goals by a couple percentage points for two months.

What are the chances that the NY Times and the Washington Post will cover these on the front page like they did the handwringing "Bush is bad for recruiting" bulls**t. Man I hate those bastards.

Yeah, but Bush's numbers are down.

Oh, they're back up?

Well, actually, they had all but 18,000 slots of their increased 85,000 slots filled back in, umm, April? Summer recruitment was below expectations for expanding the military. Whoops. A recruitment center down in San Diego picked up 43 new recruits in the first four days of the month in response to the outstanding effort by our armed forces down in Gulf border states. Their normal for this early in September is zero.

There is going to be alot of unemployed Americans in the Gulf after the Hurricane, we really ought to increase the size of the army again.

I had the feeling that if there was an upside to Katrina, it would be to boost military recruitment numbers.

So many of us felt like we wanted to do something to help other people.

We can add one more to the numbers for the Naval Reserve come Friday. My oldest son is going to the recruiting office to sign up for the Reserves.
