We know what disaster relief is supposed to look like. Parachute drops of food for the hungry, water for the thirsty, doctors for the sick and hurt. Is there any doubt that many more people would be alive today if the president hadnt taken the helicopters away and sent them to Iraq? Is there any doubt that many more people would be alive today if the president hadnt taken the emergency medical teams away and sent them to Iraq? Is there any doubt that many more people would be alive today if the president hadnt taken away the Humvees and trucks and the National Guardsmen to operate them?
Where are the tents and the field hospitals and the kitchens for the refugees of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama? Maybe, just maybe, that levee in New Orleans would not have broken if the president hadnt taken the money for strengthening the levees away and sent it to Iraq.
There is other blame to go around. The city of New Orleans declared an evacuation, but it didnt actually offer anyone a ride out. If you lived in New Orleans with no car and no money, how would you evacuate when the order came?
Im so mad at the wasted life and the needless suffering. I dont know whether to spit or cry. Ive given some money to the Red Cross. I dont know what else I can do.

If we would have just pulled out of Germany, Japan, Cuba and Kosovo, the victims of hurricane Floyd wouldn't have had to wait 4 weeks for help.
Yes, yes, and yes. There's plenty of doubt about the screed you just posted.
Blanco failed to both activate her own guard troops in a timely manner and failed to ask for guard troops from other states in a timely manner.
That has nothing to do with Iraq and everything to do with state and local incompetence.
But this letter is fascinating for one reason: liberal spinners are now forced to acknowledge that the locals screwed up. Before, they said that the Bush Admin was trying to pin the blame on the locals when the locals were criticized.
Which means we are winning this, folks. We are pumping out the toxic liberal ooze that has flooded the truth.
A caller to the Howie Carr Show who lives in Houston said that FEMA has supplied vouchers to the landlord of thousands of vacant apartments and all but a few are still at the Astrodome. In new homes and their children in school. BUSH'S Fault!
Mayor Nagin also seems to have purchased a house in Dallas. Get while the gettings good.
Where is that "I see stupid people" photo when you need it?
O ne Zot! How do these people even manage to breathe, with so few synapses firing?
Most would be alright if all the democrats were in IRAN too!
I thought we had an Army for combat purposes.
Thanks for clearing that up, Gerald.
On a side note, if our idiot President didn't have the US Postal Service distracted delivering all this mail, postal workers could have evacuated the people trapped in New Orleans with their fleet of literally thousands of mail trucks.
However, these mail trucks were uselessly dispersed throughout the country, in locations as far remote from the storm path as Anchorage, AK and Portland, ME.
As CMSgt Kurtz used to say, "If a frog had wings, he wouldn't bump his ass when he jumped."
The writer has no concern about his fellow man.
Certainly more Iraqis would not be alive. Iraqi children would still be in children's prison. Women would still be raped by Saddam's sons. Those who spoke out against Saddam would still be murdered and buried in yet another mass grave.
And I even doubt that any more Americans would be alive.
As a resident of Missouri I know now what J school foisted all those libs on us.

Blanco Gets Briefing From National Guard Leaders
Dateline: Baton Rouge, La.
The planned deployment of 3,000 Louisiana National Guard soldiers overseas will leave the state with just two-thirds of its guardsmen at home, but it won't harm the state's ability to protect itself, according to the commander of the National Guard.
Maj. Gen. Bennett Landreneau said Thursday he was "confident and secure" Louisiana's homeland security efforts would continue even as a brigade with about 4,000 soldiers - 3,000 from Louisiana - has been activated for overseas services.
Gov. Kathleen Blanco said while it shows how well-prepared Louisiana soldiers are, there were times she felt like Louisiana was playing a disproportionate role in the country's overseas operations, including the war in Iraq.
"After this deployment, I think our soldiers should have a time of reprieve," Blanco said after a private meeting with the leaders of the 256th Infantry Brigade.

Landreneau said when the 256th leaves, about 4,000 of the 11,000 men and women in the Louisiana National Guard would be deployed at the same time.
"It certainly does sober us up," Blanco said of the large number of Louisiana troops that will be overseas.
The 256th is set to train first at Ford Hood, Texas, for deployment in support of the Iraq war. It was unclear when the soldiers would be moved overseas or when they would return.
Blanco and Landreneau asked employers to sign a ceremonial statement of support for the troops who are leaving their jobs behind because of the deployment.
"It's pulling a lot of people out of our work force," the governor said.
Landreneau said employers so far have been extremely supportive. Federal law requires that employers must allow the men and women to return to their jobs when they come back from their deployment, but Landreneau said the statement would "let that individual know they're going to be welcome when they come back home."

Blanco's fault.
Got to love the throwaway line about the locals in this bashBush screed.
"Is there any doubt that many more people would be alive today if the president hadnt taken the helicopters away and sent them to Iraq? Is there any doubt that many more people would be alive today if the president hadnt taken the emergency medical teams away and sent them to Iraq? Is there any doubt that many more people would be alive today if the president hadnt taken away the Humvees and trucks and the National Guardsmen to operate them?"
Yeah, there's a tad of doubt, considering only about 10% of the army is actually in Iraq. But ok.
This is a gag alert right? he he he
