Well, that is what the President said, at least when talking about failures on the federal level.

What failures? The failures were on the state/local level as we've seen time and time again in numerous threads. What the heck is Bush talking about? Did he take responsibility for Blanco/Nagin's failures?

Did he take responsibility for Blanco/Nagin's failures?

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!

He took credit for what went right and wrong. He mentioned how many lives were saved by the Coast Guard, they are FEDERAL first responders and saved over 30,000 people, he gets credit for that right?

Q Mr. President, given what happened with Katrina, shouldn't Americans be concerned if their government isn't prepared to respond to another disaster or even a terrorist attack?

PRESIDENT BUSH: Katrina exposed serious problems in our response capability at all levels of government. And to the extent that the federal government didn't fully do its job right, I take responsibility. I want to know what went right and what went wrong. I want to know how to better cooperate with state and local government,

This is WHAT he said - not taken out of context.
